چکیده

ÐIn this paper, we consider accelerated rendering of high quality walkthrough animation sequences along predefined paths. To improve rendering performance, we use a combination of a hybrid ray tracing and Image-Based Rendering (IBR) technique and a novel perception-based antialiasing technique. In our rendering solution, we derive as many pixels as possible using inexpensive IBR techniques without affecting the animation quality. A perception-based spatiotemporal Animation Quality Metric (AQM) is used to automatically guide such a hybrid rendering. The Image Flow (IF) obtained as a byproduct of the IBR computation is an integral part of the AQM. The final animation quality is enhanced by an efficient spatiotemporal antialiasing which utilizes the IF to perform a motioncompensated filtering. The filter parameters have been tuned using the AQM predictions of animation quality as perceived by the human observer. These parameters adapt locally to the visual pattern velocity. Index TermsÐWalkthrough animation, human perception, video quality metrics, motion-compensated filtering.

Implementation of a panoramic-based walkthrough system

A key component in most virtual reality systems is the ability to perform a walkthrough of a virtual environment from different viewing positions and orientations. Recent advances in image-based rendering techniques allow us to have interactive panoramic viewing of real world environment using real photos. With panorama visualization tools like QuickTime VR, we are able to have fast navigation ...

Antialiasing in Raycasting Digital Terrain Models

We may use ray-casting methods to render terrain from digital terrain models. In this paper we enhance a terrain renderer in several ways, including application of antialiasing techniques. Also we examine various aspects of antialiasing in terrain rendering. We summarize surface and color reconstruction models, and discuss several vertical antialiasing techniques, including supersampling and ar...

Splatting Errors and Antialiasing

This paper describes three new results for volume rendering algorithms utilizing splatting. First, an antialiasing extension to the basic splatting algorithm is introduced that mitigates the spatial aliasing for high-resolution volumes. Aliasing can be severe for high-resolution volumes or volumes where a high depth of field leads to converging samples along the perspective axis. Next, an analy...

Three-Dimensional Scene Walkthrough System Using Multiple Acentric Panorama View (APV) Technique

In this paper, we propose a novel 2D plenoptic function called “acentric panorama view (APV).” This novel 2D plenoptic function samples the panorama scenes without oversampling or undersampling. A single APV can be accelerated by view culling and list-priority rendering algorithm. Multiple APVs with special fields of view, 45◦, 60◦, 90◦, and 120◦, can be integrated into a larger configuration c...
